Are you ready to change the world?

Welcome to the Changemakers Challenge, an opportunity for us to celebrate all the amazing women and girls in science in our communities and bring together girls (8 years old and above) interested in addressing some of the most pressing challenges impacting their lives such as global warming, climate change, waste management and environmental sustainability, and which are specifically related to one of the following Sustainability Development Goals:

Goal Definition
SDG 6 Clean water and sanitation
SDG 7 Affordable and clean energy
SDG 9 Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
SDG 11 Sustainable cities and communities
SDG 13 Climate action

By offering girls the tools and skills they need to become changemakers, and lead systemic innovation in the new world, our aim is to give the next generation the best possible chance of making the world a better place for generations to come.

How does the Changemakers Challenge work?

The Changemakers Challenge is a community initiative aimed to develop the skills and capabilities of girl inventors and innovators from concept to prototype and into a sustainable product that addresses a global issue.

It also encourages students, educators and parents to understand specific end-states by providing them with access to emerging and exponential technologies where possible to develop their prototypes and understand the latest trends and user requirements through an entrepreneurial lens.

How to apply:

Step 1

Build a team of 2 to 6 members: Reach out to classmates or school friends that you enjoy thinking and creating with.

Step 2

Empathize: Think about your target audience, put yourself in their shoes: what are their challenges and needs?

Step 3

Define the challenge: Tell us why you feel this specific issue is important to your target audience and which SDG it addresses.

In your submission you will need to answer each of these questions in under 200 words each:

1.Explain why the challenge you chose is important and which SDG it addresses.

2.Explain your idea and outline your potential target audience. How did you come up with the idea and what makes it innovative? (which you will think about more in Step 4)

Step 4

Ideate and think of a solution: Brainstorm with your team, tackle the challenge from different angles and don’t stop until you’re happy with your creative solution. Remember: you’ll need to submit a description of your creative solution, as mentioned in Step 3.

In your submission you will need to answer the below questions in under 200 words each:

1.Explain what the next steps are in developing your idea.

2.Who would be considered your top three competitors in the industry?

Step 5

Submit your innovative solution: You will need to create a short video to introduce your team and your innovative idea. The video should be no longer than 2-minutes, and no larger than 10MB. Along with this video, you will also submit your answers to the 4 questions above, to complete your application for review at the link below.

Step 6

Was your solution shortlisted? If yes, you’re ready for the next step: prototype! It’s time to bring your idea to life so you can share it with others. Which tools and technologies will you use? Our industry experts are there to support you along the way, including testing your idea!

Step 7

Showcase: Are you ready to pitch your idea to the world at Expo City Dubai? Demonstrate your solution to a panel of judges and industry experts.

Are you up for the challenge?
